Al-Ahly and Real Madrid to Face Off in Repeat of Historic 2001 Match

Board members of Egyptian football club, Al-Ahly, have accepted an offer from their counterparts at Real Madrid to play a friendly match at the Spanish giants’ Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, according to Egypt Today.
The delegation from Al-Ahly was attending the Football World Forum in Madrid, where they were invited to a tour of the iconic stadium, during which the conversation turned to the 2001 friendly between the two teams at Cairo International Stadium.
The match was one of the highest-attended matches in recent history, with Real Madrid boasting their legendary ‘Galácticos’ team that included Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos and Raul. The match ended in a 1-0 victory for Al-Ahly.
Details as to when the friendly will take place have yet to be revealed.
