Ministry of Interior officials restricted access to the area while explosive experts investigate.
An explosion in Maadi's Gaza'er Street earlier this morning, kills a 35-year old security guard and injures 3 others, his wife and two children according to an anonymous source speaking to El Watan News. The man was the caretaker of the building where the explosive went off, he was cleaning the garden when he came across an unidentified metal object. Upon touching it, it exploded, killing him and injuring his wife and children by shrapnel.
Ministry of Interior's explosives experts have vacated the area and restricted access to the crime scene pending further investigation. The motives behind the attack are yet to be revealed. The injured were moved to hospital to be treated and the police are combing the area to try and locate the perpetrators.
This is the latest in a series of attacks against Egypt in the last few years. The attacks usually target security personnel, and are carried out by groups associated with the Islamic State. Based in North Sinai, these groups have been engaged in an insurgency with the Egyptian government since 2013. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet as investigations continue.
