The Bibliotheca Alexandrina launched an interactive website, dubbed  ‘Hieroglyphics Step by Step’, that aims to make learning ancient Egyptian writing accessible and fun.

The website is available in English and Arabic, and includes a full dictionary, with grammatical references, reading materials and a common words list. For the Egyptology buffs out there, you might be interested to learn that the reading materials list is made up of actual ancient artefacts that have been logged into the system and transliterated. The words are written out in latin script, and the user is given a suggestion on what the word would sound like.

The project has been in the works since 2015, and has been constantly updated ever since. It was made in collaboration with the Center of Font Studies and the Information and Technology Department at the library with all levels in mind, from beginners to experts.
