The road construction project is expected to hugely alleviate traffic and improve road safety for vehicles and pedestrians.
Considered one of the most important travel routes connecting Egypt’s north-eastern cities with Cairo, the Cairo-Alexandria Agricultural Road is set to receive a major expansion.
Almost universally maligned by travellers and traders, the route is set to be expanded to four lanes on each direction between Shobra and Alexandria, with the hope that this will ease traffic, while also encouraging more travellers to use it.
Spearheaded by the Ministry of Transport, the project comes as part of a whole slate of similar improvements and renovations aimed at developing road flow and safety across the country for vehicles and pedestrians alike.
It’s not only construction attached to the route, however, with 10 bridges - each crossing the Cairo-Alexandria Agricultural Road at different points - currently also in the works.
