‘Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs’ Exhibit to Open in Tokyo in March

The ‘Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs’ exhibition will open in Tokyo on March 8th and run until September, marking its first Asian tour. The exhibition will present a collection of 180 ancient Egyptian artefacts, offering the Japanese public a chance to explore the legacy of Ramses II.

The display will feature artefacts from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, as well as discoveries from Egyptian archaeological missions in the Bubasit area in Qaqqara. The exhibition will also feature a virtual reality experience, where Ramses II’s wife, Nefertari, guides you through the temples of Abu Simbel.

Since 2021, the exhibition has been touring the globe, having stopped in the US, France, Germany and Australia, amongst others.

At the press conference announcing the exhibition, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike highlighted the cultural significance of the event, noting that its timing coincides with the 35th anniversary of the twinning agreement between Cairo and Tokyo.
