Zahi Hawass Denounces 'False Claims' About Khafre Pyramid

In a recent statement, Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass refuted claims about the Pyramid of Khafre, calling them “fabrications spread by individuals with no expertise in ancient Egyptian civilization.”

Hawass clarified that rumors suggesting the presence of columns beneath the pyramid are entirely false. “The Supreme Council of Antiquities has not granted these individuals any permits to conduct work inside the Pyramid of Khafre,” he stated.

He also confirmed that “no radar devices have been used inside the pyramid” and that there is “no scientific evidence” supporting these assertions. According to Hawass, the pyramid’s base was carved directly from the bedrock to a height of approximately 8 meters, and no columns exist beneath it.

“These claims are mere attempts to undermine the grandeur of ancient Egyptian civilization,” Hawass said, adding that such baseless rumors “will ultimately be consigned to the dustbin of history.”

His statement follows claims by Italian scholars Corrado Malanga and Filippo Biondi, who assert that a radar scan of the Giza Plateau revealed a network of structures beneath the pyramids. Their research alleges the discovery of five identical formations connected by pathways near the base of the Khafre Pyramid, as well as eight deep vertical shafts extending 648 meters underground.
