Shocking Squash Upset As Egyptian Abdel-Gawad Beats Ashour In World Championships

A surprising upset at Squash World Championship as Egyptian Karim Samy Abdel-Gawad defeats three-time world champion Egyptian Ramy Ashour at Cairo’s Wadi Degla on Friday.

Abdel-Gawad faced incredible obstacles on his way to the crown. After shocking the squash world by eliminating world number one Mohamed ElShorbagy, as the sixth seed, Abdel-Gawad managed to continue shocking fans taking out three-time world champion Ramy Ashour in the finals.

Clinching the victory Abdel-Gawad managed to retire Ashour early with a 3-1 victory. Meanwhile, in the all Egyptian female final, world number four Ranim ElWelily was victorious over world number three Nouran Gohar with a 3-1 win, making it her third win in four finals.
