5 Unmissable Events to Catch in Downtown Cairo this Week

Other than catching Pokemons, we've compiled a brilliant list of parties and events for you to catch this week from party nights at After Eight to art exhibitions.

Some of us relish summer because it’s the one chance for us to go all out and escape the city. But some of us never get bored of Cairo or even wish to leave it because of the endless opportunities for adventure. From tours of historic wust el balad (now featuring Pokémon) to the killer nightlife at After Eight, here are 5 unmissable events going on downtown this week.

PokeTour

This Friday 29th July will be a chance for 15 Pokémon freaks to embark on a wonderful Downtown adventure with the incredible folks at Al-Ismaelia (aka, the team who totally revamped Downtown Cairo) for one of their mesmerising tours of Wust el Balad. Join an expert on Downtown history and architecture from Ismaelia as he’s tortured by our own Pocket Monster aficionado and wit master Skot Thayer. Just shoot us (Cairo Scene that is) a message on Facebook or directly message us on Instagram to register for your spot on the tour and then stock up on potions and recharge your powerbank because it’s going a long day.

Rags to Riches at Kodak Passageway

Sundays are never our favourite day; they're usually tedious and awful, that is until we find something creative to do. As such, Kodak Passageway is inviting all to attend their get a one-of-a-kind Rags to Riches exhibition where five artists take your run-of-the-mill recycled items and turn them into dreamlike visual creations.

Milkeshake Mix with DJ Tommy at After Eight

We're ditching husbands, boyfriends, and creepy stalkers for once as we pop by After Eight for Ladies Night. No drama, no fuss - just a good old ladies' night where DJ Tommy will spin some mad R&B and hip-hop tunes for us to get down and dirty this Monday, August 1st. If we come in hungover at the office next day, hey, at least it will have been worth it for a much-needed night out with our girlfriends.

Mazaher Ensemble at Makan

Mazaher Ensemble, composed of some of Egypt's last remaining Zar practionners, Umm Sameh, Umm Hassan and Nour el Sabah, is infamous for playing every Wednesday at Makan. One of the few genuine performances of traditional Upper Egyptian and African Zar music, this one is highly recommended. It's a chance to attend one of Cairo's most beloved and, believe it or not, cheapest performances all while sipping delicious hibiscus tea.

Garage 1 Exhibition at AUC Downtown Comics

Nothing quite piques our interest like the comic scene in Egypt. Knowing that Kawkab el Rassameen, in collaboration with KoshkComics, will be launching their issue 1 of Garage magazine next Saturday is bound to be an interesting event where various Arab artists have contributed to make this a special issue.
