During Nubia Museum's lunch break yesterday, three people, two of whom are employed by the museum, attempted to break into the window displays containing the Goddess Isis's statue in the museum's hall and tried to steal it. After the incident was caught by CCTV cameras, other employees quickly informed the Tourism and Antiquities Police, who in turn moved to the crime scene and took one of the accused into police custody while the other two fled, Egypt Independent reports.

The statue remains untouched and police forces are currently searching for the other two suspects, according to the Museum's Manager Hosny Abdel-Rahim.

Inaugurated in 1997 and covering 7,000 square meters, the Nubia Museum is dedicated to Nubian culture and civilisation. It currently houses 3,000 pieces of antiquities from different eras of Egyptian history, making it one of the biggest museums in Aswan.
