A Taste of Tommasino
From the people behind the decadent La Trattoria comes Tommasino, spreading Italian indulgence out into the 6th October. We talk to head chef Rick De Jonge to find out more.
Arguably one of the finest restaurants in Cairo, you haven’t really experienced what the city has to offer unless you’re familiar with La Trattoria. The Zamalek staple has been serving up gourmet Italian dishes for some time now, providing fine dining outside of the confines of hotels. So you can imagine our excitement when we heard that the crew behind the mammoth success of La Trattoria has opened a second restaurant over in 6th October’s Designopolis. The brand new eatery goes by the name of Tommasino, and we spoke to head chef of both restaurants, Rick De Jonge, to find out more.
“The menu has a lot of La Trattoria’s favourite dishes like Ossobuco, Beef Filet and the pastas. However, the starters are a bit different as I wanted it to be more for sharing, so more choices and bigger portions,” De Jonge tells us. With almost 20 different antipasti plates on offer, and a handful of salads and soups, it’s easy to spend your meal just trying the starter courses.
Part of the same group that owns Thomas Pizza and Charwoods Grill, you can expect fast, professional service, matched with the ambiance that makes La Trattoria so special. With an extensive beer and wine list, we’re expecting to while away hours there on our next visit. If you’re after a quick bite, try out their traditional pizzeria section. “We have a whole separate pizza side in the restaurant with a wood oven,” explains De Jonge about the authentic way of cooking - you won’t find hot dogs or ketchup here!
