Egypt’s Mohamed Elmenyawy Wins Gold in Powerlifting at Paralympics
The 25-year-old Egyptian athlete dominated in the men’s 59 kg powerlifting competition at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
Egyptian weightlifter Mohamed Elmenyawy has won a gold medal in the men’s 59 kg powerlifting competition at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
The competition was held at Paris’s La Chapelle Arena, where the 25-year-old athlete lifted 201 kg, pushing him to first place in the competition.
Winning the silver medal was Yongkai Qi from China who lifted 200 kg, while the bronze medal went to Iran’s Mohsen Bakhtiar who lifted 197 kg.
This is Elmenyawy’s first time participating in the Paralympic games, having previously finished in third place at the World Championships in 2023, and having been placed at eighth place in 2021 World Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia.
