Final Phase of Holy Family Trail Development is Completed

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has announced the completion of the Holy Family Trail development project, a major religious tourism route spanning 25 sites across eight governorates, from Rafah in the north to Assiut in the south. The project aimed to improve infrastructure, enhance tourist services, and provide accommodations for pilgrims and visitors from around the world.

Several sites along the trail have been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage program, commemorating the path that Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and Joseph took across Egypt. To promote the trail, the government has hosted tours for international church representatives and launched promotional campaigns across Europe and Latin America to attract Christian pilgrims.

Adel El-Gendy, Director of Strategic Management at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, noted ongoing work on new development phases. Investment plans are also underway to involve the private sector and local communities, creating job opportunities along the route.

The investment plan for East Port Said has been finalised, including three wellness tourism zones, a tourist access center, and beach facilities for seniors and people with disabilities. In Assiut’s Al-Muharraq Monastery area, plans are complete for accommodations to address hotel shortages, along with a visitor centre featuring local crafts, handmade textiles and dining options. Additionally, a development plan is in progress for the Naba’ Al-Hamra area.
