First Refuse-Derived Fuel Factory in Egypt to Begin Operating Next Week
It will treat some 1000 tons of waste per day.
Egypt's Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, has announced the opening of the country's very first refuse-derived fuel factory, as reported by Youm7.
Set to be officially inaugurated on April 18th, the factory is to treat up to one thousand tons of waste - including solid waste, industrial waste, or commercial waste- on a daily basis.
The factory comes as a part of Egypt’s steady move away from reliance on coal for energy and builds on the January opening of Qalyubia's first waste-recycling plant, which can turn up to 4,000 tons of waste per day into clean energy, as well as a recent agreement signed between Egypt and Korean solid waste conversion technology, JST, to build waste-recycling plants.
It’s estimated that Egypt produces around 55,000 tons of solid and organic waste per day.
