Uber Launches Intercity Bus Service That Will Take You From Cairo to Alexandria and Back
Uber's new intercity bus service will start with round-trips between Cairo and Alexandria, and will soon expand on to many of Egypt's other governorates.
Ask someone about catching a bus in Egypt. We dare you.
Watch their faces as they try to decipher the mysterious leylines of
public transport and consult with their cousins' hazy memories of what
bus you'll need to take to get where you're going. The bottom of Turkish
coffee cups, Tarot cards and palm readings may be involved. At some
point you're going to give up and try to figure it out on your own, and
wow, good luck with that. Want to know where the bus will be, what time
it'll be there, and where exactly it'll go? Roll that dice. See where it
takes you. Or you can just keep things simple with @Uber's new intercity bus service, which will soon launch across Egypt.
And
when we mean across Egypt we mean allll across Egypt, or at least,
eventually it will. At first it'll start with roundtrip routes between
Cairo and Alexandria, which is a beast of a road trip already. The
service operates 7 days a week, with 8 journeys per day, and the trips
can be pre-booked through the app under the 'Bus routes' tab in the menu
bar or when selecting a trip's destination. And of course, sanitizers
and other measures against COVID-19 will be implemented. If all this
goes well, you can expect new bus routes to pop up between the other
governorates as well, so you'll always have a straightforward path to
many of Egypt's cities.
