US Senate to Cut Aid to Egypt?

The US Senate has proposed a bill that stipulates $300 million dollar cut in military aid to Egypt.

Staff Writer

The US Senate is proposing a bill to decrease aid to Egypt by 28%. The majority of US aid to Egypt does towards military supplies, and the cut would take the $1.3 billion military aid down to just $1 billion.

The bill was proposed by the American Senate Appropriation Committee on Tuesday, and includes a stipulation that the reduced sum would also be subject to conditions. However, the bill also proposed an addition $150 million for economic assistance, according Daily News Egypt.

Another bill has been proposed by House Republicans to maintain the $1.3 billion aid, and to provide an additional $200 million for economic assistance, under the pretext of "fighting terrorism."
