Egypt's Most Trending Social Media Topics This Week, According to Supreme Media Council

The Supreme Council for Media released a report on the most consumed topics on social networks on Saturday. The report included issues like the new education system, the rife between Turki Al-Sheikh and Al-Ahly fans, which were the most talked-about issues on social media.

The council said that rumors and fabricated images are being circulated about the new education system, but Egyptians were also concerned with the statement released by the Minister of Education, Tarek Shawky in which he announced his decision to punish the teacher’s who filmed the student crying in class was also celebrated on social media.

With regards to the clash between Al-Ahly fans and Turki Al-Sheikh, the report clarified: “the exchanges between Al-Ahly and Al-Zamalek fans with regards to the former’s stance with regards to withdrawn sponsors continue. And Al-Zamalek fans continue to scourn Al-Ahly fans and administration, and some continue to criticize Al-Ahly fans for insulting Turki Al-Sheikh in the stadium.”

The council added that the news of replacing Al-Minya’s infamous Ugly Nefertiti with a new one sculpted by fine arts students was trending. Egyptians also were fixated on news of the collapse of Turkish economy and currency, as well as the return of Mohamed Saeed Raslan to preaching in mosques.
