Electricity Prices in Egypt to Increase Again
Egypt's Minister of Electricity just announced that electricity prices will increase in July, emphasising that the less fortunate will not affected by hikes.
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Resources Mohamed Shaker announced on Wednesday that prices of electricity are set to go up across Egypt next July, El Parlamany reports.
"The ministry is working to ensure the hike in electricity prices next July doesn't burden the underprivileged ," Shaker explains. "The segments that will be affected by price increases will be the wealthier Egyptians."
Prices of electricity in Egypt have witnessed major hikes over the past few years, last of which was in August 2016, when prices went up by an average of 40% across the country.
