Egypt Sells USD 82 Million Worth of Buses to the UK in 2024

Egypt’s vehicle exports have increased by 26% to USD 917 million between January and November in 2024, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The United Kingdom is Egypt’s leading export destination for vehicles, purchasing over USD 82 million worth of public transport buses. The buses have mainly been exported to the UK from Nissan’s manufacturing plant in Egypt, which have exported over 16,000 vehicles from 2022 to 2023.

CAPMAS reports that Egypt’s second leading export destination for vehicles is Saudi Arabia at USD 35 million invested in the first 11 months of 2024, with the UAE leading in passenger vehicle imports at over USD 17 million.

Despite the increase in vehicle exports, Egypt largely remains an import-dependent country when it comes to car manufacturing. For the first 11 months of 2024, CAPMAS reports Egypt spending over USD 5.7 billion on imported vehicles, marking a 35% year on year increase from its previous USD 4.2 billion spent in 2024.
