The 2010 film was selected as the Egyptian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards, and is now on its way to Netflix.

Ten-year-old drama flick ‘Messages from the Sea’ is en route to its new home—Netflix. The 2010 film was selected as the Egyptian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards and was one of Asser Yassin’s biggest successes during his early career. Now it's making its way to our laptops. Better late than never, we say.
The movie, directed and written by Dawoud Abdel Sayed, follows main character Yehia (played by Yassin) as he revisits the Alexandria of his youth, and is forced to recognize drastic changes in society. The film also features on-screen starlet Basma and Mai Kassab.
The film will be released on Netflix on December 1st. We don’t know about you, but our popcorn is already cooking.
